While the game rehashes familiar mechanics, the vast and beautiful open world rewards hours of exploration with dozens of readily-available challenges. (It was cumbersome in previous editions, but auto-crafting is a welcome addition in FC4.) Collecting plans eventually let you craft syringes for health and boosts. The environment feels interactive, too: there’s also an endless supply of rocks to throw as a distraction, which are crucial when sneaking around large groups of enemy soldiers. These predators can be an asset, however collecting meat to throw at your enemy will turn that animal onto them. Animals (including tigers!) will attack at will, so be aware of your surroundings. Hunting helps you get crafting materials, which leads to better weapons.
FAR CRY 4 BALANCE OF POWER UPGRADE
As with previous games, players level up by completing side quests to upgrade gear and skills. Taking down enemy radio towers reveals the surrounding secrets on the map, including plants and treasure chests. A wingsuit and parachute can also be purchased fairly early in the game, making aerial tactics a lot of fun. Vehicles are readily available as well and range from small three-wheeled cars to personal helicopters and hang gliders. Weapons and ammo are easily available, and some of the most entertaining parts of the game beg for grenade launcher, mortar and flamethrower kills. The new camera feature is similar to the binoculars from FC3, allowing you to tag and identify enemies then track them through walls or other obstructions. Players can also call in an AI player to assist, but this is problematic as these guys tend to run in front of your gun while you are shooting, or attack an enemy force from whom you’re trying to hide.
The game includes a four-person multiplayer - including a map builder, which requires an extra purchase of the online pass. The two-player co-op works best between friends, as communication and cooperation are crucial to completing objectives or gaining achievements.
FAR CRY 4 BALANCE OF POWER TRIAL
You’re almost always outnumbered, so taking down enemy areas requires patience and a healthy dose of trial and error to find the weak points in each situation.
Stealth is a huge factor, especially when playing Far Cry 4’s solo campaign. That said, the interface is still functional and a large inventory of weapons, takedowns, traps and distractions offers creative ways to get the job done.
FAR CRY 4 BALANCE OF POWER PC
Controls are a littl clumsy on the last-gen PlayStation 3, hinting that the game may be better suited to PC or PS4/Xbox One. Far Cry 4’s exhilarating action and open world dinged by bad story, AI (review) – The Denver PostĮxcept for some of the Balance of Power missions, the storyline has little effect on strategy or play style.
